Does long red hair work on guys?

I'm an 18 year old guy with red hair, which I'm really proud of. I'm thinking about growing my hair long, and maybe going for a Newton Faulkner look, with dreads and a big ginger beard. I think it looks awesome with red hair but I'm kind of concerned that girls will see me as a stoner/hobo if I go for this look. I'm a musician, so I think it would go well with my music related t-shirts and jeans. I actually have a pretty similar face to Newton Faulkner too and if I grew dreads and a beard I'd look very similar to him. So basically I'm asking girls, what do you think of his look?
